Areas to be cautious
- Certain parts of Carbon Market (especially late at night): While a vibrant local market during the day, it can become unsafe and prone to petty crime after dark due to poor lighting and crowds.
- Very remote, unlit streets in less developed residential areas: These areas lack security and reliable lighting, increasing the risk of opportunistic crime, especially for solo travelers or at night.
Insider tip: Utilize the Grab app (Southeast Asia's Uber equivalent) for reliable and relatively inexpensive taxi services throughout the city; it's safer and often cheaper than hailing cabs directly.
